AFGE Local 2138 represents more than 800 professional employees of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System — at the West Haven and Newington campuses and every community-based outpatient clinic across the state. We enforce the Master Agreement, protect our members rights in the workplace, and make sure every professional has a voice: in grievances, in bargaining, and at the table with management. Following federal court rulings restoring collective bargaining rights, Local 2138 was re-certified effective April 10, 2026 and resumed full operations on May 19, 2026.
The union office is staffed five days a week — including Wednesday evenings until 8:00 PM — with stewards representing members in cases across the facility.
Since reactivation, membership has more than doubled as professionals across VA Connecticut have joined together. There is strength — and safety — in numbers.
